Abstract
For the general case of irregularly shaped tumors, the requirements of uniform dose to tumor, minimum dose to surrounding tissue, and protection of radiosensitive organs are better fulfilled in rotation therapy, if the beam shape changes continuously during the rotation.
The lead rods similar to the corresponding organs are attached to a common holder which is suspended in the beam from a central shaft. During the rotation each lead rod remains parallel to itself and casts its radiation shadow over the protected organcontinuously.
The exposure dose of eye ball in treatment for lesion of the pituitary tumor is reduced about 30%, and the dose of spinal cord in treatment of the esophagus and larynx is reduced about 40%.
The simultaneous protection of bladder and rectum while the cervix cancer between them is treated. In conclusion, these technics offer additional controls of dose distribution and they confine the maximum dose to the tumor and they distribute the minimum inevitable dose to healthy tissue according to the radioresistance of its parts.
